This was me in middle overs of Game(Major part of Life)
Lieutinent Gunpal Singh
Corps of EME
Indian Army
I kept playing for some time as part of the same team. Then finally I had my own team, with me as Team Captain(Head of Family) and other team mates(family members). I had a team of some great players. Vice Captain(Wife, Rajbala) was one of them. I could rely on her when the team was in trouble. Wicket Keeper(Daughter, Namrata) was intelligent and a good learner. Opener(Son, Vikram) was a good hitter but rash and irresponsible, he was a slow learner. But both of them have achieved near perfection now. then there are other players(relatives). The team performed very well perticularly in middle overs wifh a few hiccups here and there.
Middle overs were full of adventure, slogging at times and achievement. With time I kept progressing, got promoted to Captain, then Major, half Colonel and finally to full Colonel. I was in and out of game due to injuries(Illness) at this stage. Finally they told me that I am not fit to continue in Army. Both of my kidneys had failed. I retired from Army on 02 July 2008 with 100 % disability. I was out but the march was not over.
I retired hurt and decided to come back in the final over. While the match was on, I bought a house in Greater Noida and settled there in Sep 2008. Took hold of my meagre savings and retirement benefits. Thrice a week I went for my heamudialysis and enquired from other players(Patients) in same condition as mine. I found that I can play my final over. I have at least six balls to face(6 years) before I finally retire. If I am lucky and little careful, I might get one or two no balls(years). Suddenly we were in the final over. I was ready fully padded to face it. So here I am in the final over. The first ball will be bawled on 31 Dec 2009. You will get the ball by ball(Year by Year) account of the game. Watch for this space to find out how I faced the first ball.

Dear Gunpal, You write in an understated way, with a large dose of modesty and a subtle sense of humour, while stating facts as they are. I wish you an impressive 'Final Over'. While such an 'over' holds true for most of us, we probably lack the will or ability to share with others. Enjoy every bit of it and I will be happy to cheer you on. With every good wish, Prabir
